The Senate has decided to await the outcome of an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission before taking further action on the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and its appearance in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

The decision followed a motion sponsored by Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman (Kawu, Kano South), calling for an urgent investigation into the council's budget allocation, operations and the circumstances surrounding its inclusion in the national budget. Presenting the motion, Kawu described the issue as a major institutional concern capable of damaging public confidence in the Senate, the National Assembly and the Federal Government's budget process.

The senator raised concerns that although senior officials of the Presidency had reportedly described the PFIPC as fake, fictitious and unauthorised, the body was listed in the 2026 Appropriation Act under Budget Code 0111062001 with a total allocation of ₦1.302 billion — including ₦802.98 million for personnel costs, ₦200 million for overhead expenses and ₦300 million for capital expenditure.

Kawu questioned how an entity allegedly lacking official recognition could have been captured in the national budget, warning that failure to investigate the matter thoroughly could further weaken public trust in the country's budgetary and oversight systems.
