Three rescued as hostel collapses near Federal Polytechnic Oko

Emergency responders have rescued three students after a three-storey hostel collapsed in Amokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The building, identified as Elite Five Star Lodge, caved in on Sunday night, prompting a rescue operation involving the police, the Anambra State Fire Service, the State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant agencies. The rescued victims were taken to St. Michael Hospital, Oko, where they are receiving medical attention.
Meanwhile the management of the Federal Polytechnic Oko has stated that none of its students died in the collapse. According to the institution, the building was located outside the campus and served as accommodation for both students and non-students, and preliminary information indicates that the two people believed to have been trapped in the rubble were not students of the polytechnic.
It also noted that many students had already left the area after completing their second-semester examinations before the incident occurred, and urged the public to disregard reports claiming that its students had died in the incident.
