The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned a retired military officer, Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a four-count charge bordering on alleged terrorism-related offences and cybercrime.

The prosecution told Justice Muhammed Umar that the charges were brought under Sections 13, 25 and 26 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Ezeakolam pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following the defendant's plea, counsel for the DSS asked the court to fix a date for trial and requested that Ezeakolam be remanded pending the determination of the case. Justice Umar adjourned the matter until October 29 for the commencement of trial and ordered that the retired military officer be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

According to the charges, Ezeakolam is accused of providing moral support and disseminating information linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, through the internet and social media platforms between 2025 and 2026.
